The space will be somewhere to inspire, connect, learn and impact those who visit and work in the institute. The main concept for the space is the flow of information and how the content of the space is circulated.

The overarching concept for this project is circulation. The client for this space is Theranos, a company based in Palo Alto founded by Elizabeth Holmes, who’s goal is to make actionable information accessible to everyone in the world. They strive to aid in early detection and prevention of disease and to empower people to take control of their health.

I am interested in this topic because I think that health care and early detection is relevant in a time when medical aid is one of the main causes of debt in North America. I came across Theranos in a magazine article about how the company is single handedly changing the medical field. What makes this company so different is that they are putting knowledge into their client’s hands and giving them information that will make a difference. This collaborative mentality is one that most industries are shifting towards.

The problem that my project explores will be how to effectively place systems so that they are working collaboratively with one another as well as informing and presenting information to the public.

The opportunity that this project explores is how collaboration can create progress. The flow of information and space can change how much progress is made and I think that is where this company is already headed.

I would like this space to be adjacent to the existing research center in Palo Alto, but with more access to the nearby technology and companies. By being more connected with the community and artists, the research center will grow and progress. All those who are connected would benefit from this knowledge.

Those who will engage with my project will by my classmates and professors. With this in mind, I should focus my research in a way that is easy to understand and present to my audience. By translating my research and concepts into something that is decipherable this will be more effective when moving into the design phase of the project.

This project is being created for my interest in health, art and collaboration. I hope to achieve a better understanding of what connects science, art and community and what comes of this connection.
